26/07/2002 In its attempt to promote culture, the Foundation
has organised two competitions within the cycle "Encounters with the
Cathedral": one a short story competition and the other a leading national
open-air speed painting competition. The former of these two competitions
is aimed at stimulating literary creation with the Santa Maria Cathedral
as the plot and setting of the story. The participants may take part in
Spanish or in Basque in two categories: aged 12 to 18 and aged 18+.
The writings, no more than 10 typewritten pages in Times New Roman size
11, should be presented with a pseudonym before the 18 October at the
head office of the Santa Maria Cathedral Foundation (C/ Cuchillería
95, 01001 Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain). The prizes range between 300 and 150
Euros and will be presented at each of the Literary Conferences. It is
possible that the stories will form part of a publication together with
the authors´ papers.
On the other hand, the open-air painting competition will be held on
5 October with the Old Cathedral as the theme. It is necessary to register
at the offices of the Foundation on telephone 945 122160, from 23 September
to 4 October. The work of the winners and runners-up will remain the property
of the Santa Maria Cathedral Foundation. Two categories exist for this
competition. Three prizes have been agreed for the under 15 age group
and another three consolation prizes of between 350 and 100 Euros in painting
material. For the 15+ age group the cash prize ranges between 700 and
150 Euros. The Foundation will organise an exhibition in February of the
award-winning works and four of the runners-up.
Those interested in participating in either the short story competition
or in the open-air painting competition can request information by contacting
the Foundation on telephone number 945 122160 or at fundacion@catedralvitoria.com.
