01/01/06 The tickets for
the conference offered by the French writer will have a symbolic price
and the whole raising will be destined to the humanitarian campaigns in
India.
01/01/06 The prestigious
writer and journalist Dominique Lapierre (Paris, 1931), the author of
international bestsellers such as “City of Joy”,
“Is Paris Burning?” or “It Five past
midnight in Bhopal”, will offer a conference next January
20th within the cycle of “Encounters with the
Cathedral”, organised by the Santa Maria Cathedral
Foundation. The talk will take place at the Conference Centre Europa at
20:00 hrs.
The French writer will be accompanied by his nephew Javier Moro, well
known author of the book “It was five past midnight
Bhopal” and also the recent best seller “Indian
Passion”. The title chosen for the conference is
“How can we make this world better”, by the author
of “City of Joy”
Dominique Lapierre is one of the writers who has understood best the
value of literature as a social conscience tool and cooperated with
numerous humanitarian campaigns in India, to which he designates part
of his author royalties and income deriving from the conferences he
offers all around the world. For this reason and because of his
solidarity and cultural nature, the Santa Maria Cathedral Foundation
has decided to establish this conference with a symbolic price.
The talk will be held at the Conference Centre Europa and the tickets
for the Francisco of Victoria Hall will cost three euros whilst the
video-conference (Barandiarana and René Cassin
Hall´s), two euros. Also a box will be installed at the
Visitors Centre for any complimentary voluntary donations. All the money collected will be
destined to humanitarian projects that Dominique Lapierre collaborates
with.
The entrance fees are the same for all those who attend, there have
been many requests despite not having announced the conference. In this
sense and the fact that it is a charity act, the members of The
Founders Circle will not have the benefit of any discount and neither
will there be any protocol invitations reserved. People interested will
be able to draw their tickets from 10 am onwards, Thursday 5th at Santa
Maria´s Visitors Centre. As many tickets as desired
can be withdrawn, although the Santa Maria Cathedral Foundation does
request responsibility in their use, as a strong demand is expected.
