The two-hour-long courses will take place on December 29 and 30
Vitoria-Gasteiz, December 23,
2008.- Fundación Catedral Santa María will be organising
several handicraft workshops for the family’s youngest members during
this upcoming Christmas season. On this occasion, they will be focussed
on celebrating Christmas and allow the children who participate to
build a nativity scene out of modelling clay and decorative garlands.
The workshops will take place on December 29 and 30, 2008.
The first workshop, ‘Christmas colours’, will consist of making
decorative Christmas garlands. Designed for children ages 6 to 8, the
workshop includes a brief visit to the Cathedral in which special
attention will be paid to the lively colours in the stained-glass
windows and in the sacristy, in which the colour recovered after its
recent restoration can be seen. Once at the workshop, everything the
children have observed will help them create handsome Christmas
garlands they can put up in their homes afterwards.
This workshop will take place on December 29. There will be a workshop
in Basque from 10:00 to 12 noon and another in the afternoon from 4:00
p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in Spanish.
On the other hand, children between 9 and 11 years of age can take part
in the workshop organised for December 30. Entitled ‘Shall we mount a
manger?’, the children will mount a three-dimensional manger made of
modelling clay based on what they see in the central door of the
Cathedral’s portico. A brief visits with instructors will allow the
children to learn that church porticos were veritable stone Bibles and
that on the Cathedral portico’s central door appears a perfect
representation of the events in Jesus Christ’s infancy. They will also
visit the nativity scene installed in the Cathedral’s sacristy.
There will also be workshop given in Basque on this day between 10:00
a.m. and 12 noon and another in Spanish in the afternoon between 4:00
p.m. and 6:00 pm..
Both workshops cost 2 euros
per child and workshop for members of the Cathedral of Santa María’s
Founders Circle and their children and 5 euros for those who are not.
To sign up, you only need only make a reservation at the Visitors’
Welcome Centre (Plaza de las Brullerías) or by phoning 945 255 135.
