– The guided tours for enjoying the polychromes in the portico of Santa
Maria Cathedral are being extended until next Wednesday, June 10.
Fundación Catedral Santa Maria has taken this decision since the
reservations available until June 5 have already run out.
The portico in the Cathedral in Vitoria recovered its colour last
Wednesday, May 27, thanks to a sophisticated digital video system that
shows the evolution of its polychromes between the sixteenth and
twentieth centuries. A brilliant show of light and colour – the only
one of its kind – which extends the Cathedral’s tour offer.
Since then, close
to 1,500 people have already passed through the portico or are planning
to do so before Friday, June 5, the date initially slated for the free
tour campaign’s conclusion. Nevertheless, the interest and
expectation shown by Vitoria residents have led those from the
Fundación in charge of managing the Cathedral to extend it until
Wednesday, June 10.
Thus, until June 10, two daily tours – one at 7:00 p.m. and one at 7:30
p.m. – for groups of approximately 70 people will allow the display of
the historical evolution of the different pictorial and chromatic
styles discovered in the Paternita Chapel after several years of study.
From that day on, a special tour of the portico and polychromes will be
available every day of the week in the late afternoon for 3
euros. For further information on tours and reservations,
