Vitoria-Gasteiz, 10th June 2009.-
This week the portico of the Santa María Cathedral will host two new
musical performances which are part of the `Open for
concerts` programmme. Tomorrow -Thursday- the pupils of the
Luis Aramburu School of Music will be the protagonists of the concert
offered to celebrate the end of the academic year, while on Saturday
the Lautada Abesbatza Choir will delight the audience with a polyphonic
recital of pieces by authors from Alava. Both concerts are free of
charge though an invitation is required.
Like last year
the pupils of the Luis Aramburu School of Music will offer an end of
year concert under the portico of the Cathedral. This setting will host
an interpretation of fifteen pieces which will demonstrate the quality
of the tuition at this centre, located in the Old Quarter, and what
they have learned during the year. Attendants will have the chance to
enjoy the flute ensemble of the school which, under the direction of
Elzbieta Podolova, will interpret two pieces by Bach; with the string
septet, which will play `Stizzoso mio stizzoso` by Pergolesi, or with
the voices of the school`s choir.
There will also be flute and accordion and piano and flute duets,
accordion pieces and interpretations with wind and percussion
instruments. The recital will start at 19:15 pm with free entrance,
though prior collection of an invitation at the Visitor Reception
Centre is required.
Founded in 1992,
the Luis Aramburu Municipal School of Music has become over the years a
fertile centre which offers music tuition for all ages and which has
increased both in number of pupils and in courses on offer. It has over
1.400 pupils and over thirty teachers who offer tuition structured in
four levels, and maintains a number of stable instrumental groups.
On the other hand, on Saturday 13th June the Lautada Abesbatza Choir
will be on stage to offer a polyphonic recital with a selection of
pieces by authors from Alava. Created within the Olabide Ikastola
(school) in 1985 on the initiative of parents and students, its spirit
has always been that of diffusion and musical development, both inside
and outside our environment. It includes an extensive repertoire in
which polyphonic religious music and folk music by renowned composers
such as Guridi, Iradier or Aramburu, among others, are the main
features.
Under the direction of Jesús Merino, the Lautada Abesbatza Choir has
taken part in a number of choir exchanges inside and outside the Basque
Country. Worth mentioning, for example, is its participation in the
exchange with the `Arraga` choir from Itsasu, performed in March in the
Cambó-les-Bais church in Lapurdi, or the concerts offered in Salobreña
(Granada) last April.
Their performance under the cathedral portico will start on Saturday at
20:00 pm, and the planned programme includes interpretations of pieces
by Luis Aramburu (‘Gaur Akelarre Gorbeian’ or ‘Sanctus’), by Sebastián
Iradier (‘La Paloma’ and ‘El chin chin chan’), by Hilario Extramiana
(‘Kukua Euskal Herrian’) or by Alfredo Donnay, among others.
As space is limited invitations must be collected at the Visitor
Reception Centre (Plaza de las Brullerías).
