Next Saturday the Tàbola Rassa theatre company will represent Moliére`s `The Miser` at the Santa María Cathedral

The representation is free of charge though prior collection of invitations at the Visitor Reception Centre is required

Vitoria-Gasteiz, 8th July 2009.- Next Saturday the portico of the Santa María Cathedral will host a representation of the play `The Miser`, by Moliére. The Tàbola Rassa company will be up on stage to represent this classic theatre play which has already traveled around the world, acclaimed by critics and the general public. It will start at 20:00 pm and prior collection of an invitation is required.
The Tàbola Rassa theatre company resulted from the collaboration between Olivier Benoit and Miquel Gallardo when they created, along with Jordi Bertran, the `The Miser` theatrical performance. Launched in November 2000 in its Catalan version, the play was adapted to Spanish and French in 2001, and to English in 2007. In 2004 Olivier Benoit went on to direct the company, which had two new members, Jean-Baptiste Fontanarosa, French actor who substituted Gallardo in the French version, and Asier Sáez de Ugarte. Jorge García, technical director, and technician Sadock Mouelhi complete the team.
Since its creation, Tàbola Rassa has performed in over fifteen countries and has offered over five hundred performances with very good reviews by critics and the general public. Under the portico of the Santa María Cathedral they will present Moliére`s `The Miser`, a play in which what everyone yearns for is not money, but water. In this adaptation the protagonists must be recipients, taps, tubes and hoses. Two actors will manipulate them in view of the audience, and will give life to no less than twelve characters, offering an unusual and entertaining version of this great classic.
The play has been represented in Spain, France, Italy, Portugal, Brazil, Czech Republic, United Kingdom or Canadá, among others, and has received a number of awards such as the Jury and Audience Prize for the best Performance at the Belo Horizonte Festival in Brazil (2003), the PIB Festival Prize in Zagreb, Croatia (2005), or the Prize for the most original performance at the Lutke festival in Slovenia (2008).
This performance is part of the `Open for Concerts` programme organised by the Santa María Cathedral Foundation. It will start at 20:00 pm under the pórtico of the Catedral. As space is limited, in order to attend invitations must be collected at the Visitor Reception Centre (Plaza de las Brullerías).
