Vitoria- Gasteiz, 25 th July 2009- As of today, visitors
can once again tread on firm ground in a part of the nave in Santa
María Cathedral where the floor had previously been removed to allow
for archaeological excavations, which lasted for a number of
years. Now that the excavations have concluded, 400 square
metres of temporary wooden floor have been installed.
Visits enter through the portico and with the help of a guidebook can
get to know the portico and chapels in the nave and as well as an
overview of the rest of the cathedral.
The nave is open for visits from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and then again
from 5:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.during the weekends only. Visitors can take as long as they wish to
tour the nave, since there is no guide. Admission will be free of
charge until August 5 and as of August 6, will cost 2 euros for the
general public, although it will still be free for members of the
Founders Circle of Santa María Cathedral. Tickets must be collected at
the Visitors Reception Centre before entering.
