Vitoria-Gasteiz, 11th August 2009.- This month the portico of the Santa María Cathedral will host three new recitals as part of the `Open for Concerts` programme. Participants of the International Music Course such as the BB Duo, a viola, harp and flute trio and a group formed by students of the course will perform on the 12th, 15th and 22nd respectively. The three concerts are free of charge though prior collection of an invitation is required.
The `Open for Concerts` cycle, organised by the Santa María Cathedral Foundation to bring different music performances to the portico of the temple, will not close during the holidays. After the success registered during the two seasons this initiative has been running, three new events have been programmed for the month of August.
The first recital, inspired by the book ‘Dialogo della musica antica et della moderna’, will take place tomorrow Wednesday 12th. The BB Duo, formed by David Bellugi and Ivano Battiston, will offer the audience a programme with pieces by Bach, Bartók, Vivaldi and traditional songs from eastern Europe. The melodies flowing from their accordion and recorder will compare old, ethnic and contemporary music, revised in an original manner.
Bellugi, a soloist with a number of orchestras in different countries, has recorded close to twenty musical pieces and since 1979 he is a teacher at the Luigi Cherubuni Conservatory in Florence. His partner on this occasion, Ivano Battiston, has collaborated with the most important formations in Italy, France or the United States, and as a composer he was awarded with the Concorso Internazionale di Composizione Humoristica in Rome in 2003.
On Saturday 15th it will be the turn for an interesting trio formed by Sophie Hallynck, Leo de Neve and Stefano Parrino. Hallynck, a Belgian harpist very involved in the musical scene of her country, is president of the `Les amis de la harpe mosane` association, and teaches at the universities of Namur and Antwerp.
As for violist Leo de Neve, he was the principal viola at the `deFilharmonie` in Antwerp and at the `La Monnaie Opera` in Brussels. Likewise, he is a member of the String Quartet and the Arpae Ensemble, a teacher at the Superior Conservatory of Antwerp and gives lessons in different European countries and in Japan. The third member, Stefano Parrino, has been the principal flute in numerous orchestras and has worked under the baton of directors such as Peter Stark, Lutz Koeler or Paolo Olmi.
During the concert that they will offer under the portico of the Santa María Cathedral, the trio will perform a repertoire of pieces by Jacques Ibert, Maurice Ravel and Claude Debussy.
And last of all, the third of the scheduled performances will be held on Saturday 22nd and will incude the presence of students who participate in the International Music Course. Among others, during the recital the members of the string orchestra of the course formed by students of the same will be on stage, and will interpret a number of pieces.

Once again the performances are free of charge and shall be held under the portico of the Cathedral at 20:00 pm. As space is limited, in order to attend this recital invitations must be collected at the Visitor Reception Centre (Plaza de las Brullerías).
