28/09/2009 Up until now this part of the nave could only be visited on Wednesdays
Vitoria-Gasteiz, 28th
August 2009.- The successful `Open for works` program
which offers a view of the restoration of the Cathedral is starting to
take shape for this Autumn. The first step, which will be taken
imminently this week, will be to extend the tour of the triforium to
Saturdays, which up until now was only operative on Wednesdays. The aim
is to offer a chance to the people who visit the temple at the weekend
to get to know this part of the nave.
Likewise, the visiting schedule organised for the wall for the months
of July and August, through a collaboration agreement with the Agency
for the Integral Rehabilitation of the Historical City of
Vitoria-Gasteiz, will be maintained until the end of September,
coinciding with the celebration of the medieval market. Therefore, this
small defensive treasure of the Old Quarter will be open free of charge
from 11:00 to 14:00. and from 16:30 to 20:00, Monday to Friday, and all
Saturday without interruption. Likewise, the guided tours without prior
reservation will also be maintained, leaving every 45 minutes from the
entrance of the complex (1€) and the complete visits leaving from Santa
María Cathedral at 11.15, 12.45, 17.15 and 18.45 (2€).
On the other hand, at the beginning of October the pace of the
restoration works on the tower will force its closure to the public.
This watchtower, located at a height of around 30 metres, and which
offers incredible views of the city and the Llanada, will be
inaccessible for close to two months, the time expected to be required
to take down the new section of scaffolding currently surrounding the
tower.
During this month of September visitors can still climb the tower on
weekends and holidays.
