Vitoria- Gasteiz, 8th September 2011-. Santa Maria Cathedral Foundation and Goiena Mountain Club have organised again the Walk of Stone, a route between Ajarte ( Treviño) and Vitoria- Gasteiz. The quarries of Ajarte are the origin of the stone used for building Santa Maria Cathedral. The routes will be done on September 17th and 24th.Each day a bus will move the participants to Ajarte and from there they will walk 14 kilometers along the Mountains of Vitoria. Near to the end of the route, in Mendiola, the town receives the participants and accompany the group to Vitoria. The route ends in Santa Maria Cathedral in Vitoria and the participants can visit it free. If you are interested in this route it is necessary to make a reservation in the Cathedral´s Store ( Las Escuelas St. 11) or calling to +34 945 255 135. Each route costs 7€ except from the members of the Founder´s Circle that pay 3€. They are 45 vacancies available for each route and the County Council of Alava collaborates in the organisation.Coinciding with the Medieval Markt in the old quarter of the city during the weekend, on 24th September, a cart will be pushed by two oxes from Mendiola to Vitoria from 12am carrying some stone blocks.If anyone is interested in preparing this route, you can find a book in the Cathedral´s Store titled ´The Stone Route´ published by the Basque University and written by the geologist Luis Miguel Martínez Torres.
