2011/10/28 Representatives of Santa Maria Cathedral Foundation are participating in a conference about the regeneration of the historical centres and the way to illuminate the builded cultural heritage.
Vitoria- Gasteiz, 28th October 2011.- The light and colour show that recreates the evolution of the polychromies of the portico in Santa Maria Cathedral is being presented this week in México in a conference about the regeneration of historical centres, with more than 300 participants. It is the first time that Santa Maria Cathedral is in this country. Organised by the Spanish Cultural Center in México, the Xth Conference of the Regeneration of Historical Centres will be celebrated in Ciudad de México and Oaxaca. Experts coming from México, Spain, Italy, France, Colombia and Brasil will discuss about the recovery of the heritage in this conference titled ´Lights and shadows of the historical centres´. This year´s edition is dedicated to the way the builded cultural heritage is preserved and illuminated.
Santa Maria Cathedral has presented the recovery of the portico´s polychromies, an innovative initiative that it is very spectacular and that it does not illuminates the monument only, but also contributes a lot of information about the past.
A unique spectacle in Europa
Since May 2009, the Paternina Chapel, in the front of the portico, has recovered its colour thanks to a sophisticated digital video showing that shows the evolution of the polychromies between the XVIth and XXth century. This show is unique in Europa and it is known as the ´Portico of Light´. In this process, they have been very important all the investigations done during the restoration of the portico by a group of professionals.
