Vitoria- Gasteiz, 23rd February 2012.- Santa Maria Cathedral welcomes this weekend a group of architects and quantity surveyors, all students of a heritage sustainable restoration master´s degree. The group will visit the restoration works of Santa Maria Cathedral , and also the works of the hostel, another sustainable restoration example.They are around twenty students of the Pathology, Patronage and Sustainable Restoration of the Heritage master´s degree of the European University of Madrid. They are architects, quantity surveyors and construction engineers coming with teachers and responsibles of the General Management of the Historical Heritage of the Community of Madrid, that collaborates in this course.The group arrives on Friday to Vitoria, and the director of Santa Maria Cathedral Foundation, Mr. Juan Ignacio Lasagabaster, will welcome them, and he will offer the conference entitled ´Santa Maria Cathedral. More than a restoration´. Later, the responsible of the Information Management System of the cathedral, Mr. Iñaki Koroso, will talk about the geographical information system and documentation of the cathedral. The application of the virtual reality to the restoration of the historical monuments will be also raised, like the recovery of the polychromies of the portico by the architect Mr. Oskar Bell and the multimedia technician of the Foundation, Mr. Oscar Muñoz. They will all finish the course with a guided visit to the cathedral.On Saturday they will visit the construction works of the hostel that Santa Maria Cathedral Foundation is doing in the old quarter of the city.
