One of the priorities of the Santa María Cathedral Foundation is to create interest in the cultural heritage, architecture, archaeology and art in general in children. In addition to the specific content for kiddies such as the polychrome show The Portico of Light it has, in collaboration with the Department of Education of the City of Vitoria, implemented a programme with themes adapted to each age. Schoolchildren first work in the classroom with materials and audiovisual materials created specifically for the purpose and then take part in practical visits to the church.
Every year thousands of school children are welcomed from centres in other parts of the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country and neighbouring provinces.
